I
INTRODUCTION
A.
Background
of Choosing the Topic
Language plays the
important role in education. By using language the process of education runs
smoothly. In educational institutions, many people learn languages mainly
English language because it is very useful language to communicate with other
nations. English is a foreign language that is though in Indonesia from Elementary School to University.
English
is getting more and more important. It is used in many aspects of life such as
communication, knowledge, education, technology, culture and art. Many
countries attempt to use English as a second or foreign language. This
condition makes people have to master it in order to be able to get involved in
the era of globalization. Every single day people have to follow wants, so they
have to be able to communicate in English, in the era of information, people
can get information from in the internet, which is the most important language
in the world.
Indonesian
government determines English as a subject that is taught to students of
elementary school, high school and university level. The government realizes
that’s English is a means of communication skill in English. Based on the
syllabus used for teaching English (Thn.2004
TEFL High School Syllabus) teacher should teach English to make students have
communicative competence (Department of Nation Educational, 2004). In
additions, they have to master the four language skills.
Thus,
in Indonesia government has shown its concerns about the importance of English
in use. It is stated in the KTSP curiculum: “Mata pelajaran bahasa inggris
bertujuan mengembangkan kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa tersebut, dalam
bentuk lisan dan tulis. Kemampuan berkomunikasi meliputi mendengarkan,
berbicara, menulis dan membaca”.
Vocabulary
is the most important in communication. Without vocabulary, we can not express
our idea or understand the message. Difficulty of communication means a big
problem for everyone and need attention.
Vocabulary
improves when you know that words mean. Since vocabulary is the ultimate goal
communication and have big impact for all skill. You can not overestimate the
important of vocabulary development.
Improving
students’ vocabulary is very important, event though it is not main goal of the
learning process it self. In other words, when we learn English in any skill,
such as reading, speaking, writing, and listening, we also need to learn words
at least. We know some words that we might or use sentences because the
vocabulary learning will support the learning it self.
B.
Identification
of the Problem
Base
on the background above, the problem to identified as follow :
1.
The students’ vocabularies mastery are
less.
2.
The students’ speaking are
less.
3.
The students’ background intelligence
ability are different.
C.
Limitation
of the Problem
To make the problem
clear, it is necessary for the writer to limit the problem. The study is focused on: “ Improving students’
vocabulary mastery using crossword puzzles for first grade of MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Malingping”

Formulation
of the Problem
Based
on the statement above, the writer formulated the problem is: “ is there any
correlation between students’ vocabularies
mastery using crossword
puzzles for the
first grade of
MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Malingping?”.
E.
The
Aim of the Research
The
aims of the research is intended to find out whether there is positive
correlation between students’ vocabularies mastery using crossword puzzle game.
F.
The
Adventages of Research
The
research would give information about improving students’ vocabulary mastery
using crossword puzzles for first grade
of MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Malingping in 2015/2016 academic year. Hopefully,
the result of this study is useful for writer, students, teachers, and all
readers.
1. For
the writer
By
doing the research, the writer hopes that he can study and get more information
to identify the problem in mastering vocabulary. Besides, the writer would get
new experience and knowledge for future of his life.
2. For
the student
It
would give a certain information about their learning ability, and it would be
motivate them to identification their problem in mastering vocabulary.
Furthermore, they can also increase their ability in vocabulary.
3. For
the teacher
English
teachers are able to know how far their student achievement in vocabulary
mastery, so it can motivate them to find some methods to improve their
students’ vocabulary mastery.
4. For
the reader
It
is expected by reading this research the readers would not find any
difficulties in understanding the vocabulary mastery.
